Tosyalı Holding Lodging Complex project covers the land which constitutes the common spot for the Administrative Building and the existing plant structures. The design criteria took form around the facts of “privacy and belonging” based on the inherent functionality for this type of structures, and has been build up on fulfillment of essential and social demands and the comfort of the users within the complex. The notion of courtyard type housing frequently experienced in the local architecture of the region has been adopted also in this project both due to the climatic conditions and for the sake of achieving common ground with the urban architecture.
The lodging blocks that present intensive and everyday use presented dense volumes in terms of mass due to its structure. We, on the other hand, aimed to disintegrate such masses and to approximate the same to the perception more suitable to the human scale by virtue of the voids reserved at the central axis at the upper floors. The notion of isolating each flat from each other both in the plan level and at the façade details reflects the sense of belonging and the dynamic aspect of the lodging users to the façade, which in turn enabled the structure to assume a dynamic identity.
Tosyalı Holding proposed to gather all its employees ‘under a single roof’, thus these 3 blocks were compiled under a broad single reinforced concrete roof. A regular usage area has been designed for the users by positioning social facility/refectory block with common utilization functionality at the courtyard and recreation area formed autochthonously between the lodging blocks. Massive openings formed at the horizontal plane in the lodging blocks were also used at the refectory/social facility block in both horizontal and vertical planes through the opening established over the courtyard, and offered natural air circulation and ease of use for the building.
Tosyalı Lodging Complex project constructed on total building plot of 24.500 m² comprises of 7 blocks. The Accommodation blocks for the Lodging Complex comprise 3-storey blocks covering a total construction area of 20.000 m². The project was designed to allow accommodation of 637 persons. The total bedding capacity of the project is 708 together with 71 reserve beds. Refectory/Social Facility block is a single-story block covering total construction area of 1700 m². The block incorporates a courtyard between the Refectory and the Social Facility and food and beverage/ recreation areas, both indoors and outdoors. The refectory is designed to serve 341 persons concurrently, 245 at indoor space and 96 at the courtyard.
